AHHhh real monsters

With Facebook profile pictures using cartoon characters become a trend lately, the Ahh Real Monsters characters resurrected as well. Aaahh!!! Real Monsters was an American animated television series about adolescent monsters in training, developed by Klasky Csupo for Nickelodeon. The show ran for four seasons on Nickelodeon’s main United States cable channel and was rerun on Nicktoons Network until 2006. This was also the first Nickelodeon series to be owned by Viacom.
The show focuses on three monsters in particular (Ickis, Oblina and Krumm), who attend an institute for monsters under a city dump and learn to frighten humans. Many of the episodes revolve around the monsters making it to the surface in order to perform “scares” as class assignments.

Cartoons from the 90's

Cartoons from the 90 s are on the rise! If you were like me I was a huge fan of Tiny Toon Adventures, by Warner Bros. Tiny Toon Adventures followed the toons at Acme Acres, and was a must watch cartoon for me! My favorite on the show was Elmyra. Elmyra was quite young and obsessed with animals and cute things. Remember she would cause great discomfort or serious injury to potential pets from her overenthusiastic affection and lack of knowledge of pet care.

Bryan cranston

Actor Bryan Cranston can boast about sharing a bed with Julia Roberts - even if the actress was fully clothed and he was cold and naked under the sheets.

The former Malcolm in the Middle actor co-stars with Roberts in Tom Hanks' new movie Larry Crowne, and admits he loved playing the Oscar winner's husband.

However, there was one bedroom scene he'll always remember.

Cranston tells Eonline.com, "She's giggling and I am completely naked. She is completely in sweats (under the blanket), but I'm naked underneath because I have to make an exit and you see that he has nothing on."

"She says she's embarrassed. I go, 'Why are you embarrassed? I'm the one with nothing on!'"

Randy shannon

Miami fired coach Randy Shannon on Saturday night, hours after the Hurricanes finished a 7-5 regular season that began with championship expectations.

Athletic director Kirby Hocutt made the call.

"We have made a decision to seek new leadership for our football program," Hocutt said in a release. "Our expectations are to compete for championships and return to the top of the college football world."

Shannon received a four-year extension just before the start of the 2010 season. He was 28-22 in four seasons at Miami.

The fate of all members of Shannon's staff has not been determined. Some will remain for Miami's bowl game, but one assistant coach told The Associated Press that "everybody, all the coaches, weight room, the training room guys, secretaries, we all think we're gone." The coach spoke on condition of anonymity because he had not been told about his own job.

Shannon had considered firing both offensive coordinator Mark Whipple and defensive coordinator John Lovett in recent days, along with some — but not all — of his other assistants.

Hocutt was scheduled to meet with reporters at 1 p.m. Sunday, and players were told a team meeting would be held beforehand.

Hocutt made the decision shortly after Miami lost to South Florida 23-20 in overtime on Saturday afternoon, in a game where only about 27,000 people filled the 73,000 seats at Sun Life Stadium. A plane circled the stadium before kickoff calling for a coaching change, and players left fearing that it would be the last time they played for Shannon.

"Put it on us as players," wide receiver Leonard Hankerson said.

The sentiment may have been noted, but in the end Shannon was responsible.

Shannon is expected to receive a buyout of around $1.5 million. Miami — a private school that doesn't have the deepest of pockets when it comes to paying coaches — has had a fundraising drive to support athletics for several years and believes it will be able to put together enough money to lure a top-notch staff.

It's expected that one of the offensive coaches, likely line coach Jeff Stoutland, will coach the bowl game, though as of 11 p.m. Saturday, there was still some uncertainty about the Hurricanes' short-term plans. The Hurricanes expect to be selected for the Sun Bowl, although that still's far from a done deal.

Hocutt said he would begin a nationwide search, and there'll be no shortage of names on his list. The Hurricanes decided to promote from within when they hired Shannon after talking to Rutgers coach Greg Schiano, a former Miami assistant, and then-Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, among others.

This time, promoting from within almost certainly won't be an option. Leach, who has a residence in Key West, may be a candidate again, and speculation has been rampant for weeks that if Shannon was dismissed, Tommy Tuberville and Mark Richt would be among the Miami targets. Countless more will surely emerge in the coming days.

"Sorry to hear about Coach Shannon. Great coach and person," Houston Texans lineman and former Miami standout Eric Winston wrote on Twitter late Saturday. "Things didn't work out for him as (head coach) but I will choose to remember him as an outstanding (defensive coordinator) and player. He is a 'Cane through and through and I hope everyone respects everything he has done for The U!"

Shannon drove away from the stadium around 5:30 p.m. Saturday unsure of his fate, though he had suspected that he would be fired after the Hurricanes were embarrassed at home by Florida State on Oct. 9 and then were beaten by lowly Virginia three weeks later. He considered making many changes to his staff and was deciding whether to dismiss some coaches later Saturday evening.

Instead, Miami beat him to the punch.

"I'm not worried about me," Shannon told The AP earlier in the week when asked about his job security. "If they do it, they do it. I think someone will give me another job."

Shannon took over for Larry Coker at the end of the 2006 season and went on a mission to change the culture at the school — which, in many respects, he did.

Miami has been among the nation's leaders in academic success by its football program, and the off-the-field reputation has been cleaned up considerably.

But it never translated into wins. More specifically, not enough of them.

Shannon went 5-7 in his first season, then 7-6, then 9-4 last year. He never won a bowl game, and never got the Hurricanes past second place in the Atlantic Coast Conference's Coastal Division. Miami still has not won an ACC championship since leaving the Big East, and hasn't been part of the Bowl Championship Series since the 2003 season.

"Randy Shannon is Miami," university president Donna Shalala famously said when he was hired, with good reason. Shannon is a native of Miami, played for the Hurricanes and was a longtime assistant coach there before getting the chance to lead the program.

Even after Miami lost last week to Virginia Tech and was eliminated from the ACC race, Shalala sent Shannon a note of support. But when asked by The AP after Saturday's loss if he was concerned about his future, Shannon simply shrugged and said it would remain a source of speculation, as it had been for about the past six weeks.

Less than six hours later, he was out of a job.

When Hocutt made the decision to fire Miami women's soccer coach Tricia Taliaferro earlier this fall, he said the Hurricanes' teams were being judged on how relevant they were nationally.

And football is not a major player on the national scene — nor has it been for the past several seasons.

Cyber monday 2010

Black Friday is almost over (check out some of the best deals we've found here), and we'll be a bit sad to see it go. Still, Cyber Monday is right around the corner, and that means some sweet deals for online shoppers.

Nothing has been announced yet, because Cyber Monday still isn't considered as big as Black Friday, but there are still plenty of deals to be had.

It seems that a lot of online retailers have jumped on the Black Friday wagon, but there's no reason to ignore some of the deals that may come from Cyber Monday.

Black Friday can often bring out the worst in people, which is why many of us prefer to shop online.

We will be compiling our list as more deals emerge, but keep on the lookout for online retailers.

Because Cyber Monday is meant to cater to the online shopper, we expect to see some deals on Xbox LIVE games and subscription cards as well as PlayStation Network cards.

iTunes and App Store content is also fair game

Small business saturday

The first-time event encourages shoppers to include small, independently-owned businesses when they make their shopping rounds the day after Black Friday.

American Express says Small Business Saturday is not a boycott against large corporations.

"Small Business Saturday recognizes the importance of small businesses to the overall economy and local communities," the American Express website says. "It's a day to support the small, independently owned businesses we can't live without."

According to Civic Economics, for every $100 spent at local small businesses, $68 returns to the community. This return on investment makes it a win-win situation. Small business also provide half of all private sector jobs and represent 97 percent of all employer firms, according to the Small Business Administration. About 60 to 80 percent of jobs created each year for the last decade are attributed to small businesses.

American Express is offering their card members a $25 statement on their credit for a purchase of $25 made at a locally owned independent small business that accepts their credit card on Nov. 27. To redeem the offer register your card here.

You can support the program by shopping at small local businesses and liking it on Facebook here. Shout out your favorite local shops and restaurants on Facebook and Twitter and spread the word to shop local.

Small business can download promotional material and social media tools, as well as sign up to receive $100 Facebook advertising credit to help advertise Small Business Saturday.

There are many ways you can patronize the local independently owned small businesses such as having dinner at a local business or reserving a part of your holiday gift budget to spend at a local small businesses

Boise state

Is "whew" a word?

The nation's top two teams both trailed at halftime on Black (and Quack) Friday and, for at least a few hours, something historic filled the air.

A loss by either No.1 Oregon or No. 2 Auburn would have put a mid-major, Boise State or Texas Christian, in major position to play for this year's national title.

That drama, which started in Tuscaloosa, ended in Eugene with Oregon and Auburn both showing up for the second half.

There was more late-night drama, though, in Reno, where Nevada stunned Boise State, 34-31 in overtime.

Auburn, incredibly, rallied from 24-0 down against Alabama to win, 28-27, while Oregon turned a five-point halftime deficit completely around on Arizona, ultimately crushing the Wildcats, 48-29.

That leaves only one weekend left for plot-shifting, poll maneuvering and computer recalculation.

The hope for a "non-AQ" school making the title game isn't over yet, but the days are numbered.

Boise State, ranked fourth in the Bowl Championship Series standings, raced out to a 24-7 lead on No. 19 Nevada but was caught from behind.

Boise State's Kyle Brotzman had a chance to win on the last play of regulation, but he missed a 26-yard field goal after Kellen Moore connected with Titus Young on a 58-yard heave.

Brotzman also missed a short field-goal try in overtime, and Nevada's Anthony Martinez ended it with a 34-yard field goal.

Boise State fans watched Friday's Iron Bowl from tailgate parties in Reno, knowing an Auburn loss would probably have made Friday's Nevada game a play-in for the national title.

Hours later, their Broncos let a big lead slip away, making it a great night for BCS No. 3 Texas Christian, which concludes its regular season Saturday at lowly New Mexico.

If Oregon and Auburn win their final games, the highest ranked "non-AQ" earns a trip to this year's Rose Bowl.

Oregon (11-0) has to play at Oregon State in the annual Civil War game. Oregon State will be highly motivated for payback after being knocked out of a Rose Bowl berth by Oregon each of the last two seasons.

Oregon has clinched its second straight Pac-10 title and will play Jan. 1 in Pasadena or Jan. 10 in Glendale, Ariz., site of this year's Bowl Championship Series title game.

Auburn (12-0) has one more test to pass, in Atlanta, against South Carolina in the Southeastern Conference title game. Auburn won a hard-fought, 35-27, home victory over South Carolina on Sept. 25.

Auburn must quickly now put the emotion of Friday's mini-miracle aside and refocus on South Carolina.

Forgetting Friday, though, will be impossible.

Alabama was 30 minutes from turning college football on its ear hole. The Crimson Tide led 24-0, and took a 24-7 lead into halftime.

But you never count a team out in a rivalry like the Iron Bowl … ever.

Alabama was dominating early, 21-0, with its Heisman Trophy winner racing down the sideline toward 28-0 when an Auburn defender punched the ball loose into the end zone for a comeback.

It was one of the moments you said, "um, that could be a turning point."

Alabama also had the ball deep in Auburn territory three times and came away with six points.

"I feel like we played with a lot of effort," Mark Ingram said afterward. "But we just didn't finish. The program is built on finishing, and I feel like we gave them the game."

What's new? Auburn has been doing this all season, eking out wins against Kentucky and Clemson and also rallying from behind to defeated Arkansas and Georgia.

Friday's comeback, given the implications, and the rivalry, was instantly epic.

It was even a little eerie.

Auburn came back from a 24-0 deficit the same weekend Notre Dame is playing USC in Los Angeles.

In 1974, at the Coliseum, USC trailed Notre Dame by the same score late in the first half before scoring 55 unanswered points to record one of college football's greatest upsets.

Auburn's victory will mean just as much in its rich, Iron Bowl history, especially if the Tigers go on to win the national title. USC's victory over Notre Dame in 1974 helped clinch a share of the title for the Trojans.

"We were just too anxious and caught up in all the hype in the first half," Auburn tailback Michael Dyer said. "In the second half we just got in our rhythm and played ball."

Maybe it was something about the date?

Sixteen years ago to the day, Nov. 26, 1994, Florida State rallied came from 31-3 down against Miami to tie, 31-all.

Arizona State also rallied from a 17-0 deficit against UCLA on Friday to win, but somehow that one is probably not going to be remembered in 20 years.

Auburn, though, does resemble 1998 UCLA team that made a run to the national title with a jet-propelled offense and not-so-great defense.

Auburn has also taken on the heart-stop persona of the 2002 Ohio State Buckeyes, who survived scare after scare on its way to the BCS national title game, where they shocked top-ranked Miami.

Friday provided some nervous moments.

For the moment, though, Oregon and Auburn are safe.

kyle brotsman

Kyle Brotzman
I am rarely up at 2 in the morning, but now it is 2:33 and I am wide awake.

The old Wide World of Sports program would begin each show with a narrative that included, "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat." A cynic might wonder how agonizing can defeat be. It is just a game.

Tell that to a fellow named Kyle Brotzman. I am up because I wanted to see Boise State University play a game against the University of Nevada at Reno. Boise State has been heralded all season as the little engine that could. A team from the regularly dissed Western Athletic Conference (WAC) that had not lost a game in two years. Earlier this season it beat Virginia Tech in Virginia, and since then Boise State has mowed down every one of its opponents, attempting en route to dispell the idea that all they play in the WAC are patsies. All Boise State had to do was beat Nevada, a very good team itself having lost only one game this season, to have a shot at being part of the discussion regarding the best team in the land.

As has been typical, they went way ahead and led Nevada 24-7 at the half. But then Nevada playing at home with wild fans rooting them on, came back and tied the game with only a few minutes left in the fourth quarter. In true championship form, Boise State came right back to go ahead 31-24. Then in true championship form, Nevada tied it at 31-31. With nine seconds to go, Boise came out and threw a hail Mary, an expression used to refer to a prayer that might be answered. Someone up there was listening and a player for Boise made a beautiful catch with two seconds left on the 9 yard line.

Enter Kyle Brotzman, the regular kicker for Boise State and an excellent one. After a delay to check and see if the time was correct, Brotzman lined up for what would have been the last play of the game, a dead ahead 26 yard field goal. Incredibly he missed it. The ball went wide right and Brotzman berated himself as he walked to the sideline.

In overtime, Boise State moved the ball to the 9 yard line. In came Brotzman to kick another 26 yard field goal. This one he hooks to the left.

Out comes Nevada and they get in position to kick a thirty yard field goal which goes in. End of national championship season. End of winning streak. Beginning of conversation that believes Boise State is a fraud.

So what, you might say. Fans should get over it. What is this agony, people are sick, wars are going on. This is not agony.

Well, it shouldn't be, but Kyle Brotzman's life will never be the same again. The hell has just started. And it won't be external. His greatest challenge as an athlete will be to not let this event define him. I went to a site before I started writing and I see that Brotzman was a star athlete in high school. I wish I could talk to him and may yet send him a note. This does not define him. I know this, and you know this, but the challenge will be for him to know it. Otherwise this defeat will be a long agony.

A number of years ago, Sports Illustrated wrote an article about Scott Norwood, the kicker for the Buffalo Bills who will forever be known as the player who missed a 47 yard field goal at the end of a super bowl game. A successful kick would have made the Bills champions. In the article, the authors make this very correct point. What makes someone a hero is not a failure, we all fail, but the measure of success: is how we react when we fail and whether we are willing "to pick yourself up and try again."

I feel for Kyle Brotzman today. He will become the butt of jokes and people in Idaho, from where he hails, will never forget him. People will tell him obligatorily that it is "all right." Some will mean it. The challenge, however, will be for him to realize that what anyone says is irrelevant. We all mess up. The champions are those who can dust themselves off, and keep on moving.

IS THERE ALWAYS ANOTHER EXPLANATION OR ANOTHER POINT OF VIEW?

In my opinion, human beings are prone to pessimism as a notion for life. We are either always too scraed to try out a new thing or we assume it to be too difficult. but a question will haunt us forever: "What if?" My opinion is of the general human population but ofcourse there are exceptions. As there are exceptions to my opinion, there are always alternate explanations or another point of view to a particular situation. A cliche` wedding vow would be "Do you take Mr. X as your lawfully wedded husband for better or for worse...?" The sanctity of a marriage lies in "for better or for worse". A marriage is supposed to be felicious. If two people are in love, thye should live "happily ever after", right? If it is so then, there should have been a dearth of divorces where as we see an increase in the number of divorces everyday. If two people are in love they may live happiluy together. However, theres also a possibility that they would not.
Last year everybody I know, wanted me to take the SAT exam and apply to USA. I did not listen to anyone because i had my own plan. Little did i know, my life did not turn out to be as picture-perfect as i had imagined it to be. My plan was either Aga Khan University(AKU) or Lahore School of Management Sciences (LUMS). I thought i would get in atleast one of them if not both. I was not accepted by either one of them. Had i given SAT, i might have been sitting in USA. So, my life turned out to be the complete opposite of what i had aspired it to be. Bieng a student of a low grade government college was never my plan but yes, it was an alternative to my academic dreams.
If everything could be according to plan, then Pakistan might never have emerged on the world map since it was not in the British plan. America, in an "according to plan" scenario should have won the Vietnam war as guerrilla war fare was not a part of the strategy. Steve Jobs, the creatoor and owner of "Apple", never graduated. After he got kicked out of college, who could have thought that he would end up as a multi-millionaire, but he did!
Sometimes, you meticulously think through your chances of success to be 95% but the 5% chance of failure wins. On the other hand you may consider yourself unworthy of acheivement but your goal may be awaiting your will. We choose an approach hoping it to be in our favour. The approach will always have an alternate which we either ignored or will never find out.

Frys

This retailer which was first established in the Silicone Valley area is dedicated to being a one-stop shopping mecca for personal computer owners.

Using L-39 jets this show team is known to execute maneuvers at speeds in access of 500miles per hour.

The US launch of a role-playing game World of Warcraft ‘Calatysm’ can be experienced at a Frys Electronics location in Fountain Valley, CA. Prior to the sale launch there will be entertainment including a dance contest.

new hollow

Out of the public eye for well more than a decade, local southern rock band Windwood Hollow is proving that you can indeed go home again.

The Foxborough-based band, which had experienced considerable local success in the 1980's and '90's will be making their triumphant return to their home town on Thanksgiving weekend. The hard-driving yet versatile rockers will appear at the Fusion 5 night club on Rte. 1 in Foxborough on Friday, Nov. 26 and Sunday, Nov. 28.

Says founding member, guitarist and vocalist Dave Moreshead, now of Boca Raton, Florida, "It really is like a homecoming. We were lucky to have developed one of the better followings of any of the bands in the area back then. It's going to be funny to look out and see so many of those old familiar faces that followed us around for so long."

The long and winding road that began for the band in 1980 took them to every state in New England, as well as Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, along with venues in New York. Moreshead and fellow founding member Pat Gallagher, the keyboardist who still resides in Foxborough, waxed nostalgic about the very early days.

"It's funny to look back at our very first gig. It was at a little place called Jack's Cafe in Mansfield,” said Gallagher. “We also had many great gigs a little later on at The Gathering in Norton."

Vocalist Linda Payne of Providence joined early on after she met the band at Thackery's restaurant in Walpole, where the band started to appear frequently. Working as a waitress there, she got up to sing with the band and soon became a regular member.

As they focused largely on Top 40 and classic rock, Payne sang lead mostly on female cover songs, such as those by Heart, Pat Benatar, Fleetwood Mac, The Pretenders, and Bonnie Raitt.

By the end of the 1980's the band had evolved more into the southern rock style. Their production manager, Michael Brooks of Easton, recalls, "They developed a niche because there weren't many bands in this region playing that style."

It was the addition of songs by southern favorites, the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Marshall Tucker Band, and ZZ Top to name a few that helped elevate Windwood Hollow's popularity. The band also began performing their own original songs crafted in the southern style that had served them well.

The original songs and stage show caught the attention of country star Doc Holiday, who recorded them for his "Tugboat" record label. Brooks served as the producer on the resulting album, entitled "Still Rockin' ", which featured twelve original songs.

Unfortunately, as Brooks relates, the release was disappointing for the band as it lacked the financial backing to help give it the attention it deserved. Some of the songs can still be heard on the band's Facebook page.

They did however have the occasion around that time to serve as an opening act at larger venues for such nationally known acts as Molly Hatchet, Foghat, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, Blackfoot, and James Montgomery. They appeared at a three-day Hunter Mountain Harley-Davidson

Festival in the Catskills in the mid-1990's that was attended by well over 100,00 people. Recalls Moreshead, "The crowd seemed to like us a lot — even more than a couple of the well-known bands".

"Part of our appeal, I believe, is that we could be very versatile because of our lineup,” said Moreshead. “We have one member, George Butler, who plays sax, flute, and harmonica, which allows us to do a lot of different things."

Adds Payne, "That's how we came up with the name 'Windwood Hollow’ — 'Wind' is for the instruments that George plays, which require wind. 'Wood' is for the guitars and drums, and 'hollow' is for the acoustic guitar, which is also an important part of the sound."

The band experienced significant tragedy by losing two of its members to cancer in the mid-1990's. The deaths of both drummer George Briggs and bassist Dave "Moose" Monteiro dealt the band a blow from which they would never fully recover.

Recalls Moreshead, "We were set to take the next step up. We were scheduled to go to Nashville to do a showcase for several record company executives when George got very ill. It really took the wind out of our sails."

The band tried to carry on with replacement players, but made the decision to dissolve the band by 1998. Moreshead moved to Florida shortly after.

But now they are poised to turn the clock back a couple of decades to relive their former glory. Helping to validate their decision is the fact that, with virtually no publicity, word of mouth about the reunion prompted more than 400 tickets to be sold to the first show in just a matter of weeks. In addition, the Foxborough High School Class of 1977 will be having a reunion of their own at the second show on Nov. 28, reliving their own good times of listening and dancing to a band that was a part of their younger years.

firebreather

For nearly three decades, Peter Chung has been a name in 2D animation, with such titles as “C.O.P.S.” and MTV’s “Aeon Flux” series. Now, he’s joining the 3D ranks, directing Cartoon Network’s first CGI movie, “Firebreather,” which premieres Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET/PT. “Firebreather,” based on the comic book series by Phil Hester and Andy Kuhn, is the story of a teenager named Duncan whose mother is human and whose father is Belloc, a 120-foot fire-breathing monster king. Hero Complex writer Noelene Clark caught up with Chung for Five Questions.

PC: It’s funny, because it’s where I started. A lot of people know me for my work on “Aeon Flux” and think of my work as being targeted for adults, but I started doing stuff for a younger audience. So for me, it’s not strange for me to be doing something like this at all. In this specific instance, I would say, it’s very satisfying now to sit with an audience and watch the movie and just have them respond very spontaneously and emotionally. And thinking a lot about how to do that, because for a long time, I was really trying to engage the audience on a cerebral level with “Aeon Flux” and with “The Animatrix” and some of the other things like “Tomb Raider,” and be a little more ironic or a little bit more self-referential, whereas this, I think, is just more of a classically told story. … [In "Aeon Flux"] I’d self-imposed all of these restrictions: no family, no personal ties, all the stuff which, to me, makes telling an emotional story a whole lot easier. I didn’t want those easy methods in the case of “Aeon Flux.” In the case of “Firebreather,” I mean the story, [relationships are] so intrinsic to the character, that it was kind of liberating to be able to make use of all of that. … When I was doing “Aeon Flux,” it was like I had this huge handicap that I’d imposed on myself. It’s like you’re training, and you’re running races with a pack of weights on your back, then suddenly you’re able to take them off, and you can run wild, and that’s a little what it felt like working on “Firebreather.”

Tom delay

Email Comments 7,385 AUSTIN, Texas — The heavy-handed style that made Tom DeLay one of the nation's most powerful and feared members of Congress also proved to be his downfall Wednesday when a jury determined he went too far in trying to influence elections, convicting the former House majority leader on two felonies that could send him to prison for decades.

Jurors deliberated for 19 hours before returning guilty verdicts on charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering in a scheme to illegally funnel corporate money to Texas candidates in 2002. He faces up to life in prison on the money laundering charge, although prosecutors haven't yet recommended a sentence.

After the verdicts were read, DeLay hugged his daughter, Danielle, and his wife, Christine. DeLay whispered into his daughter's ear that he couldn't get a fair trial in Austin. DeLay had unsuccessfully tried to get the trial moved out of Austin, the most liberal city in one of the most Republican states

DeLay's lead attorney, Dick DeGuerin, said they planned to appeal the verdict.

"This is an abuse of power. It's a miscarriage of justice, and I still maintain that I am innocent. The criminalization of politics undermines our very system and I'm very disappointed in the outcome," DeLay told reporters outside the courtroom.

He remains free on bond, and several witnesses were expected to be called during the punishment phase of his trial, tentatively scheduled to begin on Dec. 20.

Prosecutors said DeLay, who once held the No. 2 job in the House of Representatives and whose tough tactics earned him the nickname "the Hammer," used his political action committee to illegally channel $190,000 in corporate donations into 2002 Texas legislative races through a money swap.

DeLay and his attorneys maintained the former Houston-area congressman did nothing wrong as no corporate funds went to Texas candidates and the money swap was legal.

The verdict came after a three-week trial in which prosecutors presented more than 30 witnesses and volumes of e-mails and other documents. DeLay's attorneys presented five witnesses.

Story continues below

"This case is a message from the citizens of the state of Texas that the public officials they elect to represent them must do so honestly and ethically, and if not, they'll be held accountable," Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg said after the verdict.

Lehmberg said prosecutors will decide in the next few weeks what sentence they will recommend in the case to Senior Judge Pat Priest.

DeLay chose Priest to sentence him rather than the jury. He faces five years to life in prison on the money laundering charge and two to 20 years on the conspiracy charge. He also would be eligible for probation.

Jurors, who left the courthouse right after the verdict was read, declined to comment to reporters, only saying that it had been a tough decision for them to make.

The jury had sent numerous notes to Priest during its deliberations, which began on Monday. Many of the notes asked various legal questions that at one point had prompted the judge to say the panel wasn't on the right track. But at the end of Tuesday, jurors had indicated they were making progress.

Prosecutors said DeLay conspired with two associates, John Colyandro and Jim Ellis, to use his Texas-based PAC to send $190,000 in corporate money to an arm of the Washington-based Republican National Committee, or RNC. The RNC then sent the same amount to seven Texas House candidates. Under Texas law, corporate money can't go directly to political campaigns.

Prosecutors claim the money helped Republicans take control of the Texas House. That enabled the GOP majority to push through a Delay-engineered congressional redistricting plan that sent more Texas Republicans to Congress in 2004 – and strengthened DeLay's political power.

DeLay's attorneys argued the money swap resulted in the seven candidates getting donations from individuals, which they could legally use in Texas.

They also said DeLay only lent his name to the PAC and had little involvement in how it was run. Prosecutors, who presented mostly circumstantial evidence, didn't prove he committed a crime, they said.

DeLay contended the charges against him were a political vendetta by Ronnie Earle, the former Democratic Travis County district attorney who originally brought the case and is now retired.

Lehmberg, who replaced Earle, said the trial was not about criminalizing politics.

"This was about holding public officials accountable, that no one is above the law and all persons have to abide by the law, no matter how powerful or lofty the position he or she might hold," she said.

Craig McDonald, the director of Texans for Public Justice, a liberal watchdog group whose complaints with the Travis County District Attorney's Office helped lead to the investigation of DeLay's PAC, said he was pleased by the verdict.

"We can't undo the 2002 election, but a jury wisely acted to hold DeLay accountable for conspiring to steal it."

The 2005 criminal charges in Texas, as well as a separate federal investigation of DeLay's ties to disgraced former lobbyist Jack Abramoff, ended his 22-year political career representing suburban Houston. The Justice Department probe into DeLay's ties to Abramoff ended without any charges filed against DeLay.

Ellis and Colyandro, who face lesser charges, will be tried later.

Except for a 2009 appearance on ABC's hit television show "Dancing With the Stars," DeLay has been out of the spotlight since resigning from Congress in 2006. He now runs a consulting firm based in the Houston suburb of Sugar Land.

The Thanksgiving Song

Love to eat turkey
'Cause it's good
Love to eat turkey
Like a good boy should
'Cause it's turkey to eat
So good

Turkey for me
Turkey for you
Let's eat the turkey
In my big brown shoe
Love to eat the turkey
At the table
I once saw a movie
With Betty Grable
Eat that turkey
All night long
Fifty million Elvis fans
Can't be wrong
Turkey lurkey doo and
Turkey lurkey dap
I eat that turkey
Then I take a nap

Thanksgiving is a special night
Jimmy Walker used to say Dynomite
That's right
Turkey with gravy and cranberry
Can't believe the Mets traded Darryl Strawberry
Turkey for you and
Turkey for me
Can't believe Tyson
Gave that girl V.D.

White meat, dark meat
You just can't lose
I fell off my moped
And I got a bruise
Turkey in the oven
And the buns in the toaster
I'll never take down
My Cheryl Tiegs poster
Wrap the turkey up
In aluminum foil
My brother likes to **********
With baby oil
Turkey and sweet potato pie
Sammy Davis Jr.
Only had one eye

Turkey for the girls and
Turkey for the boys
My favorite kind of pants
Are corduroys
Gobble gobble goo and
Gobble gobble gickel
I wish turkey
Only cost a nickel
Oh I love turkey on Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Sweet potato pie recipE

Sweet potato pie, my oh my! What would a Thanksgiving feast be without some comfort food? While sweet potato pie recipes vary, I have my favorite recipe that you will want to try for your dinner. If you have sweet potatoes, spices and butter, you can make this dessert with a minimal budget.

Looking for a sweet potato pie recipe, you came to the right place. Every year, I love to make this recipe and share my fabulous baking talent with my loved ones. Not only is this recipe easy, but it doesn’t require a whole lot of groceries.

Get out your pen and paper or printer ready because here is what you will need to get together for your creation.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup butter (you will want it softened)
2 eggs (you will want to separate them)
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup evaporated milk
1 1/2 cups cooked mashed sweet potatoes
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ginger
and 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust

After you have gathered all your supplies, you want to preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Next up, cream your butter and sugar and beat well until you have mixed it thoroughly. When complete, add the egg yolks and mix those in well.

After that you want to stir in the sweet potatoes, milk, nutmeg, vanilla, cinnamon and ginger spices! You will want to have another bowl handy to mix your egg whites and 1/4 cup of your sugar/butter mixture. Add in the spiced up sweet potato mixture and mix well! Fold into the sweet potato mixture.

Finally put your filling into the pie crust and bake it for 40 minutes! When done baking, let it cool and then serve with whipped cream topping!

Have a happy holiday season!

As you know, the Biggest Loser crew members walked out last week, so here is an update. In a show of solidarity with crew members on strike, the host and two trainers on the NBC show "The Biggest Loser" are auctioning themselves off on EBay to raise money for strikers. Alison Sweeney, host of the NBC reality show, is auctioning off lunch dates with herself, and trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper are auctioning workout sessions. The auctions will go on for the next three days. The striking workers got a further boost when the LA County Federation of Labor, which represents more than 800,000 workers in the county, threw its support behind the strike. “We intend to mobilize our vast membership and our resources to help bring a fair settlement to this dispute with ‘The Biggest Loser,’” said Maria Elena Durazo, the leader of the LA County Federation of Labor. “The producers of this show want to make their own workers ‘the biggest losers’ and the labor movement in LA is not going to let that happen."Chance to win a Ford EdgeAlso, Ford Warriors in Pink is enlisting a new team of Warriors in the fight against breast cancer by joining with the hit NBC reality show "The Biggest Loser" to show that the fight to get healthy and stay healthy requires the same Warrior spirit as the fight against breast cancer. The relationship will be integrated through a series of initiatives that will rally both contestants and viewers to get involved, and will reward the Warrior in each of them. During the show’s highly anticipated makeover episode airing November 23, contestants will compete in a special Ford Warriors in Pink "Biggest Loser Challenge," where they will be rewarded for their Warrior-like fight to get healthy with the chance to win a 2011 Ford Edge. In addition, contestants will demonstrate the fashionable side of support by modeling Ford Warriors in Pink apparel and accessories to highlight their transformed physiques."Ford Warriors in Pink and ‘The Biggest Loser’ share a common goal to empower people to take control of their health," said Connie Fontaine, Luxury and Nontraditional Marketing Communications manager for Ford Motor Company. "This is a show that creates Warriors, and we are proud to have the support of NBC and ‘The Biggest Loser’ to help raise awareness and work towards a cure for breast cancer.""The Biggest Loser" all-star trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper along with show host Alison Sweeney will do their part to sound the battle cry by appearing in a national print and broadcast campaign that will hit newsstands and airwaves in November to remind everyone that breast cancer affects us all 365 days a year. Ford commitment runs well beyond raising funds. The company is committed to making a difference 365 days a year by encouraging women to become informed and visit their doctor, educating them that early detection saves lives. No surprises in this past week's Biggest Loser. We knew there would be two women below the yellow line and that one would go home. That is pretty much what happens when the men band together, decide to send all the strong women home and keep the weak ones around to make for an easy Finale. Ada seems to be the only one that has any chance of staying... and of course Elizabeth because the men don't want to send her home. Yes, she needs to stay, but so did the other women that were sent home. How heartbreaking was it that Ada didn't get a video from home?! I just don't get it. Her family should be so proud of her, working so hard at getting and staying on the right path. Unthinkable that they would not even take the time to make a video for her. So sad because now is the time she needs their support. I'm so happy that the other contestants put their heads together and made a "family" video for her. That was so special and brought tears to my eyes.Coming up: It's makeover week and I hear that this season's makeovers will have a pink theme for breast cancer awareness. As mentioned above, The Biggest Loser is teaming up with Ford Warriors in Pink, the automaker's campaign to support the fight against breast cancer. The winner of the weekly challenge will get a 2011 Ford Edge. And as part of their makeovers, the contestants will be modeling Warriors in Pink apparel. Should be exciting to watch and we hope you'll join us on Tuesday, November 23 at 8/7c for The Biggest Loser makeover show! Then, on Wednesday night, Thanksgiving Eve, we'll get to sit down and watch The Biggest Loser: Where are they Now at 8/7c on NBC!Happy Thanksgiving Week!!
